Thomas Pandolfi is an American pianist who has performed across the USA with various symphonies as well as across the globe to China and Europe and British Columbia. He’s an outstanding cross-over artist and is accomplished as a classical artist as well as a performer of artists such as Andrew Lloyd Webber, Leonard Bernstein, Marvin Hamlisch, Burt Bacharach, and Barry Manilow. His performance in Beckley will consist of a first half of classical compositions and a second half crossing over into some of the artists mentioned above. He is a graduate of The Julliard School and has earned both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees.

The WVU Steel Band program offers any students who show the ability and desire to perform on pans an opportunity to explore the traditions of Trinidadian Steel Band Music, as well as classical and popular arrangements and transcriptions.

The WVU Taiko ensemble provides an opportunity for students to explore the rich musical traditions of Japan including folkloric and popular styles, arrangements, and transcriptions.

The West Virginia University African Music and Dance Ensemble is an experiential ensemble, focusing its repertoire on the traditional and contemporary music of Africa and the Diaspora. The music is taught primarily through oral tradition allowing the members to experience the learning process without written music.

All ensembles are comprised of both undergraduates and graduate students from many disciplines across the WVU campus and are open to all WVU students.

Almost Heaven Paddle Battle

To say that Jimmy Fortune carved out his own place in The Statler Brothers would be an understatement. Encouraged to develop his writing talents, Fortune wrote and sang lead on many of their biggest hits. “Elizabeth,” “Too Much On My Heart,” “Forever,” and “More Than A Name On A Wall” are just a few of the Statler’s hits that feature the Fortune name and voice. He also was part of the group’s award-winning TNN variety series that ran from 1991 to 1998 and played date after date on the road, bringing their legendary sound to thousands each year.

Fireworks won’t be the only thing rocketing skyward on Independence Day. Teams of two will compete for the most outrageous blob of the day. Thurmond Ghost Hunt

Join ACE Adventure Resort’s Thurmond Ghost Hunt and experience a paranormal investigation in the New River Gorge. We will visit one of the most haunted places inside the park, Thurmond. Space is limited as we are only taking 20 participants on this investigation.

 

Our evening will start at ACE Adventure Resort where we will drive to the New River and take a short hike up the Southside Junction trail to the town of Thurmond. We will spend much of our evening exploring the ruins of this old railroad town. This is your chance to investigate the paranormal side of the old train depot, Main Street on the tracks, The Lower End, the Dun Glen Hotel site, and the Ballyhack district. Use paranormal equipment such as K2 meters, spirit boxes, and SLS cameras.

 

Registration Includes Evening Ghost Hunt (4-5 hours)

 

All participants will need to fill out the ACE Adventure Resort General Waiver upon arrival. Participants under 18 MUST have this completed by parent or legal guardian.

Refund Policy – Before 30 days of the event you will receive full refund minus any fees.

A five day mountaintop gathering of musicians and friends with contests, concerts, workshops, square dances, camping and a hymn-sing. West Virginia masters are presented to an audience of more than 3000 musicians and string band music lovers from around the world. More than 40 beautiful sailboats compete in this regatta-an amazing photo opportunity.  The proceeds from this event all go to support Hospice of Southern WV. There is a silent auction and raffle. A kayak is given away each day.  There is food, music and a carnival and games for kids.  It is at the beach so bring a bathing suit, a camera, a desire to support hospice and have a great day at the lake!

 

Honey Bee Festival

4th annual event! It will be a fun day filled with honey bee products, activities, vendors and great information. Visitors can learn how to raise bees, taste and purchase local honey, see live honey bee demonstrations, visit informational display tents, and participate in great activities for the entire family! Special children’s activities will take place at the Youth Museum such as bee dissections and visitors can see the “Curious George” exhibit.

Music will provided throughout the day. There will also be specialty vendors and food vendors selling hotdogs, smoked pork, roasted corn on the cob, kettle corn, drinks and honey fudge. Exhibition Coal Mine tours will be available all day as well for the special rate of $12 per person.

Thurmond Ghost Hunt

Join ACE Adventure Resort’s Thurmond Ghost Hunt and experience a paranormal investigation in the New River Gorge. We will visit one of the most haunted places inside the park, Thurmond. Space is limited as we are only taking 20 participants on this investigation.Our evening will start at ACE Adventure Resort where we will drive to the New River and take a short hike up the Southside Junction trail to the town of Thurmond. We will spend much of our evening exploring the ruins of this old railroad town. This is your chance to investigate the paranormal side of the old train depot, Main Street on the tracks, The Lower End, the Dun Glen Hotel site, and the Ballyhack district. Use paranormal equipment such as K2 meters, spirit boxes, and SLS cameras.

Registration Includes Evening Ghost Hunt (4-5 hours) All participants will need to fill out the ACE Adventure Resort General Waiver upon arrival. Participants under 18 MUST have this completed by parent or legal guardian. Refund Policy – Before 30 days of the event you will receive full refund minus any fees.

The 36th Annual Taste of Our Town (TOOT) festival take place on Saturday from 11am to 3pm.Thousands of residents and visitors from across the region gather on the streets of historic downtown Lewisburg to sample delicious food from local restaurants, civic clubs, and non-profit organizations. Live music will be featured on three stages and theatrical performances throughout the day. For the kids there will be bouncy houses, fall festival games, pumpkin painting, street theatre and a climbing wall.

Bridge Day 5K RUN 2020

Join us in October for a breath taking run across the New River Gorge Bridge. This unique race takes place during the Bridge Day West Virginia event and is the only opportunity to run across the New River Gorge Bridge.

 

This is a run only event due to a limited time frame to be on the New River Gorge Bridge. Racers must be prepared to run the first mile of the race. Walking is allowed after the first mile.

New River Gorge Bridge Day

On the 3rd Saturday of October every year, the New River Gorge Bridge closes to traffic and opens to attitude!  BASE jumpers, rappellers, vendors and spectators share the excitement, spectacle, the experience of this day. Come be part of it! Big Adventure, Big Day, Bridge Day!

 

Be sure and come to the Taste of Bridge Day Friday the 17th at Smokey’s on the Gorge.

Bridge is open to pedestrians from 9am to 3pm. The best way to get to the bridge on Bridge Day is to take one of the shuttles. Park your car and for $2 per person we will drop you off at the Bridge Day entrance.

The initial event of the Rim to River Endurance Races, the course consists of winding single track & rail-to-trail from the rim of the Gorge to down along the New River. Along with the natural beauty of waterfalls, whitewater, & dramatic views, you’ll also find ghost towns, centuries old cemeteries, & abandoned mine shafts throughout the course.
